Powerlifting, the ultimate strength sport, returns to Barcelona for the 8th Arnold Classic Europe Championships in 2019.
Organised by the European Powerlifting Federation (EPF), and sponsored by Rogue Fitness and SBD Apparel, athletes will go head-to-head in three specific disciplines designed to test human strength! In contest order, they are the squat, bench press and deadlift, with the total of the best lift in each discipline being added together. The Wilks Formula is then used to compare the strength of powerlifters against each other despite the different weights of the lifters to determine the overall winner. This guarantees the audience an exciting and spectacular competition!
The EPF is committed to drug-free competitions throughout Europe, and a member nation of the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF), the oldest and largest governing body for the sport of powerlifting with members in more than 100 countries.
Both Equipped and Classic competitions will take place over the three-day event. The ‘bench only’ competitions will take place on day one, the Classic ‘full power’ or ‘three-lift’ competitions for men and women on day two, and the equipped ‘full power’ competitions for men and women on day three. In Classic lifting the use of specially designed lifting suits, bench shirts and knee wraps are not allowed. Knee sleeves are permitted in Classic lifting.
Gold, silver and bronze medals, as well as prize money, will be awarded to the top three lifters, male and female, in each competition.
Mr Arnulf Wahlstrom, President of the EPF, said; “The EPF is delighted to return to the Arnold Classic Europe for another year. Once again, we will showcase many of the world’s elite lifters as they compete for the Arnold Classic title. We saw World Records and European Records broken in 2016 and we are sure more will be attempted in 2017. The powerlifting stage is one not to miss!”
